Here is the REAL HELP a beginner needs

If you have just started knitting, this is the book that will really help you to LOVE knitting. This is the first knitting BOOK that I bought--I had been knitting from individual patterns before this. But Knitting Without Tears gave me the tools and the freedom to make sweaters that really fit, mittens that were easy, and a lot of laughs as I read and learned. I learned that knitting in the round made a lot of sense to me and was a lot faster. I could make a cardigan by knitting in the round, then use a cut and sew method. Magic! Elizabeth Zimmermann opened up my mind to try new things without fear--after all, it could easily be changed! There are great techniques for every level of knitter: if you don't have this book in your library, you are missing a terrific source of enrichment!

Start here with your knitting book collection!

If you buy one knitting book in your lifetime, let it be this one. She will make you laugh, think, and teach you how to do all kinds of things you didn't think you could. Everything you have heard or read about EZ is true. She's wonderful. I have all four of her books. This is the one book I go to for answers -- before my Principles of Knitting. M

    An Amazing Book

I don't know what took me so long to buy this book. The first time I heard of EZ was years ago. So many people have mentioned her since then that I don't even know where to start with that list. Almost every thing I ever heard about her books was positive and I still did not buy any of her books. I finally decided to buy this one because I want to start to design my own sweaters. I hoped that her percentage system would be a good place to start. I have read this book cover to cover in just a few days. Her writing style is interesting and fun to read. The information in this book is useful and insightful. I do not know where to start now. There is so much more than just sweaters here. I am intrigued by the socks and mittens as well. I have to say I love the idea of making your swatch into a hat. I think that this book will serve me well for years to come, and will always have a home in my book case. I would recommend this book to any knitter. If you can knit and pearl you can do any thing in it. The way that the "patterns" are written is more like guidelines to make things work with your yarn, gauge, and body than row by row instructions. I love it.
