    Excellent read

La Blues By Maxine Thompson is a great gritty feel good book. It is writing in first person through the eyes of the main character "Z". From the start of the book when she lives through a mugging you want to know more about her and the things that make "Z" who she is. As you flip through the pages she shows enthralls with her past, present and thoughts of her future. "Z" is a real person you can identify with and root for. She lived a full life full of ups and downs from her early years in a home with a very young mother who has a number of "uncles" in and out of "Z" and her siblings lives to her life with foster mom Shirley aka Moochie. You can tell a lot of her reservations about life come her early childhood and her resolve for life came from Shirley but she does a great job of learning the lessons from any situation she had been in giving her the drive she needed to continue to dream. Not wanting to be just a product of her environment she peruses her dream of becoming an LAPD even though her older brother and mother are or was in a gang. When she loses her partner in the line of duty she hits the bottle heavy but pulls herself through and cleans herself up. The lost of her nephews threatens her will to stay clean but she manages to prevail. This book is an excellent read and is filled with everything love, violence drugs struggles and best of all perseverance.
