    Objectivity Missing

This was one of the most unbalanced, biased and boring biographies I have ever read, and I have read tons of them. The author essentially glossed over LBJ's many character flaws, as well as his policy failings, while accusing people like Eisenhower of being "inept" on foreign policy, and "a simple-minded weakling". Of course, history has shown that Eisenhower's approach to foreign policy was clearly superior to LBJ's. Instead of trying to take a balanced approach to Johnson as a person and politician, and to the positions of Republicans and Democrats on the issues of Johnson's day, the author chose to wrote what amounts to a Left Wing Manifesto. You know what I'm talking about: All R's are dumb, and all D's are brilliant; All R's are bad guys, and all D's good guys, as a result of which their desired ends justify their means. The worst part is that if the book had been at all entertaining, I would have been able to get past its unbalanced nature. Unfortunately, the book was dreadfully boring. Normally, I can't put a biography of a U.S. president down, whether it be on T.R., FDR, Truman, Ike, JFK or Reagan, but this one was a real struggle. For one of the few times in my life, I had to force myself to pick it back up and continue reading.

Children of the 60s Must Read

The work is monumnetal and this is in keeping with the man, as he was larger in life than most men. I recall the July 1965 mid-day live TV announcement of LBJ that he was sending combat troops into Viet Nam....the announcement was done in the middle of the day purposefully - so as to assure as small as possilbe. Equal rights...equal opportunities...a serial philanderer, probably the only trait he had in common with the Kennedys...a must read for all children of the 60s...and strongly recommended for all other Americans as well.
