A look at the life and death of the American soldier

This book is an excellent read. it shows a good in depth look into the life of the American soldier, the struggles he takes, and the sorrow and struggles of the family left behind. It is a guided journey of a father and son and the sorrow faced by the family when the son dies serving the nation he loves. This book is fitting for many different groups, it full of historical context, a touching family story accurate battle descriptions and a surprising philosophical context that really makes you wonder about the role of our nation in world affairs and how that affects the young men and women we send to the slaughter

    Touching, haunting, terrific

This book, by Darell Griffin Sr. and Darrel "Skip" Griffin Jr is absolutely amazing. It it the story of Darell Griffin Jr, "Skip" to his family and "Griff" to his fellow soldiers, as he served in the current conflict in Iraq. The book was a collaborative effort between father and son and was completed by Griffin Sr. after his son's death due to wounds suffered on a mission in Iraq. The book contains journal entries written by the younger Griffin while he was in Iraq as well as containing the full text of emails written back and forth between members of the family. It is a story of a young man who overcame many of life's obstacles and matured from a young punk in trouble with the law into a leader of men. I've read thousands of books, and this is probably the best book I've ever read. The opening chapter, where Griffin Sr. learns of the death of his son is one that I've read twice already and will probably always remember. I highly recommend this book.

    last journey by darrell griffin

i could not put the book down i even called in sick to work to finish the book in one day so very true to image we all think but now we can know for sure the perils our troops face day to day night to night, so very sad i say we all need to man up or woman up and take better care of these people.
