What I immediately found refreshing about Lauren Luke's book is that she is an honest down to earth woman who had many bad experiences in her life and has turned herself around to become an international celebrity by doing what she loves the most which is being herself. A single mother trying to make a better living for her and her son, she has become an overnight sensation in the makeup world by posting videos of her applying makeup on You Tube and launching her own cosmetics line.
Luke's book is informative as well as fun. I was expecting it to be another step by boring step makeup book and was pleasantly surprised to find that the format could have been put together by a group of girlfriends having an evening out. She uses different colors and fonts in small descriptive blurbs to share her tips which are practical and everyday user friendly and I found myself feeling like I was reading her journal. This book will be a joy to any age group reading her advice.
The majority of the book shows Lauren recreating celebrity looks on herself which is what makes this book so good for any person using it. While she is cute and personable, she isn't an exotic goddess. Yet, when she recreates herself in a calmer manner of Lady Gaga, her entire face comes to life. She gives exact details on what cosmetic products to use to make the application goof proof. Lauren Luke makes applying makeup a pleasurable experience and I am sure that she and her son will be living a better life for a long time.
