Mara is a very shy woman with extremely low self-esteem who has secretly loved Mitch for four years.  They live in the same apartment complex so she sees him often but doesn't speak to him. Mitch is a confident, gorgeous detective who doesn't lack female companions. They finally actually meet when Mitch fixes something in Mara's apartment.  Mara's 2 young cousins call to pick them up at a local store and Mitch goes with her to get them. Their father is a drunk, drug addict who doesn't take care of the children so Mara fights to get full custody of them. It is a thrilling book involving family battles with Mara's trailer trash mom and aunt, fight for child custody, Russian mob and romance.

I loved the two children and especially Mitch's manner with them.  He was a fantastic father figure for them, especially since they really never had one before.  Both Mara and Mitch stopped at nothing to give the kids a good life.

I loved all the characters except Mara. I really didn't like her.  I thought her Mara world people numbering system was funny at first but it lost it's amusement very quickly.  I didn't like Mara being in her 'Mara World' through out the book so because of Mara's personality, I didn't enjoy the book.

I really liked Mitch's character and thought he was terrific.  I liked him in both his cop and dad modes.  The only thing I had a problem with in Mitch's character was that he liked Mara when I didn't.  I guess I thought that if I didn't like her, nobody should.

The story line was terrific and the ending was great. I was glad the author ended with an epilogue so we got to find out what happens to everyone later. I do love a HEA.

I really liked this book, but not as much as the other two in the series so far. Mara really annoyed me at first and I didn't get why Mitch would keep chasing after her. However, after she opens up a bit, which took a long time...the story is good, and is a real sweet book.

    Not a fave KA book.

The reason.. 1st Mitch is a jerk in the beginning. The name calling was rude and mean. Mara was hard to like, 500+ pages of the "zone" was too much. Great story. Love Elvira. Love love love Bud's welcome home.

Not my fave KA book, but still good. Drug a bit in the middle like KA didnt know what to do with a good guy for a hero. Loved the ending. Heaven and Hell is still my fav KA book.
