I spotted this book and noticed it wasn't a typical travel read.

I spotted this book and noticed it wasn't a typical travel read.  The watercolor illustrations are beautiful and take in detail that many might not bother with.
The writing is fun and funny and oh so true!  I have delighted in Ms. Swift's descriptions of places to see, to notice and to take time with.
I have always objected to being a loud American tourist, and I delight in her reparte with the French.  The descriptions of how they got to places
the good, the bad and the ridiculous, is just what someone likes me wants to read about.  Being a normal person, travelling in France, eating
great food and drinking wonderful wine with other regular people that just happen to be French.  I loved this book.

Enchanting - you will read it again and again

This is a memoir set in France. And it is lovely and informative about travel in France. But it could be applied to travel anywhere including where you are right this minute. Swift reminds the reader of how precious amd important every moment is. Paying attention to one thing at a time - what you chose to eat, the people around you, sunsets, birdsong. You don't have to be in a foreign county to experience the world. You just have to be present right now. The book is full of beautiful illustrations, you can't possibly take it in all at once. You will read this book over and over again, with pleasure at each new discovery.
