Pager-turner story of tenacity, friendship & climbing

On the descent following the summit of Mt Rainier in 1992, seasoned climbers, Jim Davidson & Mike Price, plunged into an 80 ft crevasse, miraculously landing on a small ledge. Mike Price did not survive the fall; Jim Davidson was hurt & very much alone.

The Ledge is a well-written account of what led both men to that moment in time, the extraordinary will to overcome a situation that most would not survive and the post-survival issues and emotions following such a tragic catastrophe.

For climbers, the detail & description of Jim Davidson's ascent from the ledge creates an atmosphere where one can nearly feel the frigid wall of ice & the rope in your hands.

But one does not need to be a climber to appreciate the tenacity, will to overcome all odds, and demonstrated loyalty & friendship found in the story. A great read - highly recommend!

    Solid read.

Wonderful story telling that doesnt overwhelm the reader with too much. Unlike other "adventure/survival stories," The Ledge tells this amazing story in the most effective way that could appeal to both average climbers and someime who has never been on crag.

    Goldenstripe

Goldenstripe frowned, deciding he definately didn't like River and he'd rather be home. "Let's just go," he murmered under his breath, looking at the ground below spitefully.

    recommended for climbers

this is a truly amazing story but only climbers can realize the extent of the climb out of the crevasse....lots of technical climbing lingo and descriptions of gear.

Highly reccomend to all those who have the call of the mountains!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I was right there with him, experiencing everything that he did. What a sad experience but out of it comes a depth of humaness that does not show up in everyday normal life. Beautifully written and truthfully expressed.
