more from this reviewer

    Very well written and documented.

The author does a great job making you see and feel the events on both sides of the city. It's almost as if you are there as you turn each page...

    Gripping!

I am a voracious reader, but rarely have I come across a book that I simply cannot put down. I was up until 3 am reading this for several nights. Better than any suspense thriller, I was simultaneously afraid to turn the page, but was turning them faster and faster.

This is truly a virtually undocumented historical event of momentous impact on society and literally millions of individuals, mostly innocent civilians.

I consider myself a pretty good amateur historian, but I never knew the dimensions of the horror of the siege of Leningrad.

Anyone who thinks war is glamourous needs to be forced to read this book. In addition to the historical significance, this book is a story of the extent of humans being unspeakably cruel, and others (or even the same ones) being incredibly generous and strong.

Simply amazing!!

    Excellant and informative read

I picked this book up because I know nothing about the Siege of Leningrad. This book is Excellent! If you know nothing about the Siege this book will open your eyes. The book is written extremely well, flows nicely and it is hard to put down. If you are a fan of history of any kind this book is a must read. FANTASTIC Read."
