I really enjoyed this book until the last couple of chapters. It seemed like the author was rushed to get the book finished. Corbans issue with Ruth was quickly mentioned when he told Anne about it, like they were talking about a minor mishap. I was disappointed with the ending, not that all books should have a happy ending, but the main characters were left in limbo. I love Francine Rivers and will read more of her books but would not recommend this one. The Mark of the Lion series was amazing!

    more from this reviewer

    Leota's Garden

A pretty good book. I didn't realize it was written by a religious author so it had a lot of praying and speaking to god in it. Despite that the story line was just ok.

    Good book but too preachy

This was a good storyline, but the author had the characters praying for their every thought and action throughout the book. l'm a believer and I believe in prayer, but it became a bit much. Particularly a Halloween scene when Annie, the main character, sets the scene for telling the children scary stories, but instead, begins telling them Bible stories...which by the way terrifies the children.

    A Little Preachey

Don't get me wrong--I am happy that I read Ms River's book, but at times, I thought that a bit less preaching would go a long way toward making her point. I do think that the underlying psychology of the characters was very realistic, and I did enjoy the progess of renewal in the garden.

    Not Rivers' best work

I have read all of Francine Rivers' novels, and this one is my least favorite. Rivers is a gifted writer, but this book lacks the insight and emotion that are prevalent in her other novels. I recommend skipping this one and moving along to her better books.

    An Okay Read...

I was not as pleased with Leota's Garden as I was with any other Francine Rivers book. Although enjoyable, I did manage to put it down once in a while. There were some parts where the book seemed to drag. I do however recommend any other book by Ms Rivers. She has an extraordinary talent.
