Lesson in Lone Creek is my favorite of the Lone Creek books so far…and I loved the first two. Nick Merrill is the perfect tormented hero, while Sawyer Landon combines sass and fire with single-minded determination. Bring in the troubled teen, and there’s simply no making this little book any better. Mary Manners is unrivaled in packing the power of a full-length novel into a short story (under 100 pages), and she does it to perfection in Lesson in Lone Creek. Excellent writing, lots of emotion, and a fully developed, beautifully executed storyline. Can’t wait to dive into Manners’ next offering. I have yet to be disappointed by this author.

Between the beautiful view she paints with her opening words, and the emotional turmoil in the hero’s heart, Ms. Manners drew me into this story from the start.

Sawyer is precious, just a little spitfire, a bundle of energy that reaches out to everyone around her, and obviously touches Nick’s heart even when he can’t see beyond his own pain. You can’t help but hurt for Nick, for the loss of his friend. And yet his good-heartedness shines through when he meets up with trouble of the teenage variety. What a great story!

Although this story is short, it’s packed with emotion. I loved it!

Nick Merrill is both tough and tender...a guy who's lost his best friend in a smokejumping accident and carries the hurt deep inside. Sawyer is also tender and touch, and it's fun to share the banter as they finde their way to each other's hearts. This entire series is exceptional.

Lesson in Lone Creek has the perfect hero in rugged Nick Merrill. He's the most elusive Merrill brother, and also, in my opinion, the most loveable. All of the Lone Creek Ranch books are keepers.
