    Does the Job!

    A clear, UNDERSTANDABLE PLAN and GUIDE to creating varied turkey holiday meals which ONE person can easily prepare for a variable numbers of guests.

    First, I want to say I really liked that there were color photos

    First, I want to say I really liked that there were color photos for the recipes. I liked checking out the turkey recipes. I never would think of oranges added to the cooking turkey or sage gravy. I am not a fan of sage. I liked the idea of fruited turkey. I love cranberries and boy are there a lot of recipes that look good. Yum-Ginger Cranberry sauce. There were recipes for squash and parsnip soups. I'll try that one. All the veggie recipes look yummy-Spinach! Then comes the "Never met a potato recipe I didn't like" section. MMM! I don't even want to go into the Calorie Overload Desserts. You have to check out this book.

    Good selection of recipes and tips

    I don't often prepare Thanksgiving dinner as we usually travel out of town for the holiday. But this year we were having friends and family to our house, and I thought this book would help me feel more confident in my preparations. It did, although it was less of a book than a compilation of magazine articles and recipes. That said, the tips and recipes included, I felt, were well-chosen and I'm still pleased with my purchase.

    More than just your ordinary cookbook. Let's Talk Turkey takes you from planning your holiday get together to the carving of the meat and the serving. No detail is too small to cover. Covered is the the guest list and planning a menu as is what to do when asked if a guest can bring a dish. Shopping and setting the table. Items to keep your younger guest amused, how big a bird should you get, how to thaw your masterpiece and checking the equipment you will need to prepare your meal. This book tells you different ways your microwave can help conserve time on turkey day, how to keep your meal warm before serving, and even how to pick the best wine to complement your meal. There are sample meals with recipes, table decorating ideas and table setting placements.


    All that before getting to the main event fully tested and praised holiday recipes. I have to tell you if you can not find a turkey recipe that appeals to your taste bud, then they must be dead. I found more than one and am seriously think of serving turkey more often just so I can try some of them. Then lets move onto the Tart and Tangy Sauces and Relishes. You really have to try the Cranberry- Apple Chutney. As to the stuffing I cheated an had two. I stuffed the bird with the Cornbread, Bacon and Onion stuffing and served the Sourdough stuffing with sausage cranberries and apples on the side because it sounded so delicious. for sides I added Roasted squash with Walnuts to our normal family favorites of green beans, sweet potatoes and and mashed potatoes, which i changed up a bit with some of the recipes from Let's Talk Turkey. I changed my normal garlic potatoes for the Garlic and rosemary recipe, and as for my sweet potatoes, I exchanged mine for the Maple sweet potatoes with pecans. Sorry but if I messed with the green beans my family would kill me. That dish has been a tradition for nearly 100 years with a few tweaks along the time line.


    As for the desserts I did not change any for my Thanksgiving dinner because, like the green beans, certain things can not be played with. On the other hand many of these recipes, the Turkeys included be made any time. Especial for a family reunion or Sunday dinner. For which I made Cranberry Orange Cake one Sunday amd Old Fashion Pecan Pie on another. Then lastly because I could not resist the recipe and the picture I made the Gingered Carrot cake for a Church Social. Lastly for those pesky left overs, Let's Talk Turkey thought of those too and offer you a few recipes to try out. This is definitely a cookbook that need to be added to regular holiday cooking collection, just remember it doesn't have to be Thanksgiving to pull it out. With health conscience individuals remember turkey is a lean meat you make all year round.

    This excellent and easy to read cookbook is a must have for beginners and veterans of Thanksgiving and Christmas - two big holidays that we eat turkey on. It has numerous tips and pointers complete with dozens of scrumptious photographs that include a guide to prepare for the holidays so you aren't rushing around at the last minute trying to get everything ready. If you've never carved a turkey before, no problem! It has step by step instructions with mouth-watering photographs to walk you through it. Do you want to have a gorgeous place setting for your table and don't know what to do? There's ideas in here with photographs so you can choose the perfect one. And what would a cookbook be without recipes? There's several different recipes in here for jazzing up your turkey so it's not the same old bird like everyone else has. Pick some more recipes from the book for your sauces, breads, stuffings, potatoes, salads, vegetables and desserts and you will have a great meal! Highly recommended for anyone that cooks a turkey or dishes that go with it.

    The cooking tips are great and always good to have in the same book you're cooking from.  The recipes look amazing!  I have made the Apple & Squash Soup and it was DELICIOUS!!!  The recipe called for Fried Sage Leaves and that was the perfect finish for an awesome soup.  The ingredients can be bought at any grocery store,  so there's no need to drive all over town looking for them.

    Thank you Hearst books for putting together this awesome collection of recipes, tips and ideas.
