43 years ago, This Match Still Enthralls
"This account of a tennis match played by Arthur Ashe against Clark Graebner at Forest Hills in 1968 begins with the ball rising into the air for the initial serve and ends with the final point. McPhee provides a brilliant, stroke-by-stroke description while examining the backgrounds and attitudes which have molded the players' games." from the publisher. Forty-three years after the match was played, it is still an engrossing book. McPhee examines the harsh road taken by Ashe and the comfortable road taken by Graebner as he simultaneously uses that information to create a vivid play by play. A tough act to pull off, but done well by a great journalist. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
