Patient-centered cancer care
Dr. Keith Block - referred to by Andrew Weil as the "father" of integrative oncology - has created the best cancer guidebook ever written (and I've reviewed plenty of them in my seventeen years as a Cancer Patient Advocate and survivor of three separate primary cancers --kidney, colon and prostate). Dr. Block's 600-page book "is the program every cancer patient deserves in order to have the best chance for recovery and restoration of health," states Weil, who wrote the foreword to Life Over Cancer. I couldn't agree more!
I have known of Dr. Block's international reputation as a clinician, researcher and educator - he's also the editor of a leading medical journal, Integrative Cancer Therapies - because we serve together on a National Cancer Institute editorial review board dealing with Complementary and Alternative Medicine (Google PDQ CAM). I'm one of two Patient Advocates on this panel of otherwise noted doctors and scientists. But it was only recently when my prostate cancer appeared again in my left pelvic wall that I came to know what a remarkably unique doctor Keith Block really is. Having a clear, accessible "Radiation Support Program," outlined in his book, was enormously helpful at the start of my Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy at UCLA, but I knew I couldn't stop with just reading. I knew I had to get on a plane and get to Evanston (just north of Chicago) and experience The Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment for myself. And what an experience it was: two days of non-stop sessions with the most informative doctors, nutritionists, physical therapists, and mind-spirit counselors I have ever met under one roof.
The CENTER'S "Anti-cancer Diet" and the basic "Block Center Core Diet Plans" are worth the price of Life Over Cancer alone, but added to that are very helpful chapters on Physical Care and Mind and Spirit Care as well. All of this sound advice is patient-centered and is not just scientifically-based, but sensitively based at the same time.
I know of no better single volume than this for helping cancer patients boost their biology and enhance their treatment programs, be it surgery, chemo or radiation. With Dr. Keith Block there is always more that can be done, and he and his staff at the Evanston, Illinois Block Center leave no stone unturned. Your cancer care can cost tens - even hundreds - of thousands of dollars, but I promise you there will be no better expenditure of $25 than the purchase of this book.
I wish you good reading and good health. --CyberRosa, Patient Advocate, Los Angeles, CA2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

Great book
I have angiosarcoma. A rare cancer annd found this book to be very helpful. Many of the information my doctor had given me but this book broke it down into detail. It is a great to go back to and re-read when needed.

Integrative care examined carefully and with compassion
This well composed book is written as a complementary/alternative medicine guide that can provide an easier journey through the traditional phases of cancer diagnosis, surgery and body ravaging treatment. It then provides advice for maintaining remission with gusto or meeting the failure of treament with courage.
The explanations of biochemistry and nutrition are reader friendly and optimistic. Additionally, Dr. Block does not spend valuable reader time trying toover- sell his treament center or products.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Incredible book
I bought this book because several of my friends have cancer, and I wanted to be as informed as I could be. The information in this book is invaluable. I tell everyone I know, who might benefit from it, about this book. I have read many books on cancer, but have found this one to be the best. Ironically, the diet that Dr. Block recommends, is exactly what my husband and I have evolved to on our own. This is must reading for anyone who has cancer, and for those who just want to be more informed.

The best book for cancer survivors and those wanting to avoid cancer
This is by far the best analysis of what works best to deal with cancer for those who experience the disease or are connected to those who are facing what to do when they get cancer. See for yourself. This will provide a better understanding of what can be done if you face cancer in your life or in the life of family or friends.

What your Doctor won't tell you about your cancer.
In our current medical system doctors and specialists, even if they accept that life style and attitude have an effect on disease, either as causative factors or as essential to a cure, have little time or inclination to inform you about the details. Keith Block is a medical doctor who had his attitude changed by his own bout with brain cancer.
He was given the usual treatments and the tumor was removed, but it reappeared several years later and Dr. Block began to do research to discover what he could do to assist in his long-term recovery. He discovered research that indicated that there were many elements of diet that either were conducive to tumor growth, or helped the body fight off the tumor. In this book he gives the reader information concerning which diet items are good and which are not and why.
In addition Dr. Block cites research indicating that an individuals psychological and spiritual well-being are also important factors in either supporting or handicapping the body's immune system as it tries to fight off the development and growth of cancerous tumors.
I found this book clear and insightful. But more than that I found it inspiring. It inspired me to change my life style, both physically and mentally, and help my body fight off the invasive disease that had attacked it.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.
