    An inveterate reader

Mr. Epstein has given us an intimate look into one of the most captivating political marriages in US history. It is beautifully researched and is told with the sensitivity of a poet. Not since Lash's Eleanor and Franklin have I enjoyed a book of this nature so very much. It has the backbone of a text book and the soul of a novel.

Best Lincoln Book in a generation

I approached this book with some misgivings, as there are so many stereotypes about the Lincolns' marriage. Some biographers belittle Mary Lincoln, while others portray her as a victim. Epstein has the sensitivity to see the marriage from the beginning as inspired by authentic love which survived enormous adversity. It is remarkable how many new facts Epstein has discovered about the marriage, from the problems in their courtship, to Mary's overspending and jealousies as first lady. And yet, knowing the story as well as I did, I still cried at the end, because the author made the scenes so vivid. This is the best book of non-fiction I have ever read.

    Excellent

In the difficult times our country is facing right now..I wish Abraham Lincoln were here. There will never be another like him. In-depth and an interesting read. This would make a very nice gift.

A wonderful story on the Lincolns

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it made interested to learn more about the life of Mary Todd Lincoln. I would like to try another bio of her.
Very well researched and a good learning experience!

    Brilliant and absorbing!

After reading literally hundreds of books about the Lincolns, I didn't think there was anything new to learn. "The Lincolns" was as a treasure to read with its details and reader friendly approach. I found that I could not put the book down. I learned touching, thoughtful and unforgettable facts about the enormous hardships the Lincolns faced. The quality of this book's historical facts blend seamlessly with the presentation of the couple's daily lives. What a gem!

    more from this reviewer

    The Lincolns well researched

Even thought much of this ground has been covered before the approach Epstein takes still provides for compelling reading. If your interest lies in the relationship between Mr. Lincoln and his his Molly this book is definitelyy worth your time.
