The Listening Walk: story about a child who learns how to listen more carefully to the sounds that occur every day. This book provides children with the oppotunity to learn how to improve listening skills.
The pages in this book are colorful which makes it interesting to children while they read alone or some one else is reading the story to them. I have found it catches the children's attention and helps assist wtih improving listening skills by becoming more atune to the sounds that occur on a daily basis since families lives have changed becoming more fast paced. The book appears to draw upon the need to slow down, take a walk and enjoy the day noticing the small pleasures that occur in life. It also appears to encourage spending time with a parent or someone close the child which facilitates improved relationships. The pages of the book are bright and colorful which appears to capture children's attention and makes it more interesting. Since the character is mainly female I feel it would be more helpful if it combined walking with both parents, mother, brother or as a family where parents point out and encourage listening to the sounds that occur on a regular basis. This book could also facilitate healthy living since it invovles walking.
