You might be familiar with the Little Bear series on PBS and Nic

You might be familiar with the Little Bear series on PBS and Nick Jr. It is a charming television series for young children, but it is not nearly as charming as the books upon which it was based.
The first Little Bear book is properly titled "Little Bear". In it we are first introduced to delightful bear who wants to play outside, but fears it will be too cold, so he puts on a hat...and is still cold. And so it goes until the little bears is bundled up, still cold, and realizes (with the help of his mother) that he needs a fur coat, which, fortunately, he has.
The illustrations are by the incomparable Maurice Sendak, so they probably need no selling. Although, I will say, for those who may find the drawings of his children in other books impish or slightly sinister, there is nothing sinister about the darling little bear. He is perfectly rendered.

Highly recommended! A must read for children and their parents.

A friend's mother gave this book to my son 37 years ago. She told me at the time that someone had given it to her children and they loved it so she wanted my son and me to have the same experience. I had always given it to my friends when they had new babies and now I am giving it to their grandchildren!I always follow through by giving the entire series to each child. All my children loved Little Bear and I did too!

    Great for preschoolers!

My son adores this book- he loves to follow along with the story as the CD plays. He enjoys the stories themselves and the process. I enjoy that it's engaging him in reading!

    An excellent read for children

I LOVED this book as a child, and when I happened upon it again as an adult, I broke into tears. I will never forget how much of an escape it was 'even before I could read' to look into the life of this precocious little bear. Please read this with your children.

    Reluctantly 5 stars

A boy should be able to do what he believes is what is right to do, But when a meddling mom is involved, things go crazy. A child should be able to grow away from parents, both mom and dad, and become a self-sustaining person in society.

How a young boy needs his mom

Four great stories of how a young boy needs his mom for protection and comfort, as well as for love.

    fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALL OF THE STORIES WERE FUNNY & WONDERFUL! I LOVE THE STORY 'BIRTHDAY SOUP'. 'MOTHER BEAR, MOTHER BEAR, WHERE ARE YOU?' CALLS LITTLE BEAR. 'OH, DEAR, MOTHER BEAR IS NOT HERE, AND TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY.' IT S BOTH A SWEET/FUNNY STORY!!! THE SWEET PART IS AT THE END WHEN MOTHER BEAR SAID SHE WOULD NEVER FORGET LITTLE BEAR'S BIRTHDAY. THE FUNNY PART IS WHEN LITTLE BEAR THINKS THAT MOTHER BEAR FORGOT HIS BIRTHDAY AND FORGOT THE CAKE-SO... LITTLE BEAR MARES BIRTHDAY SOUP! MY OTHER FAVORITE STORY WAS LITTLE BEAR'S WISH!!!

One of my favorite books as a child

The Little Bear series should be a part of every child's library. Beautiful stories with beautiful illustrations. My mother recently uncovered my old copies and now I am passing on the tradition by buying new copies for the children in my life.
