    Breathtaking and fascinating

Who would imagine that reading a book could bring down so much trouble? When Janie Little, a Celtic musician, opens a book written by her grandfather's best friend, she opens a world full of fancy and hidden dangers. This book is powerful, and a number of evil people do their best to obtain the book for its power. The story in the book differs with every reader. The story Janie reads tells of a young girl, Jodi Shepheard, who becomes involved in the fairy world after an encounter with the evil Widow Pender. As these two stories intertwine, the reader realizes that music is a chief key in accessing the power. This book, carefully crafted to mix reality and fantasy, keeps the reader on tenterhooks, avidly reading to discover whether Janie and her friends, and Jodi and her friends can conquer the evil forces attempting to destroy both worlds. I could not put the book down the first time I read it, and I re-read it at least once a year with as much pleasure each reading as with the first.

Not up to his usual excellence.

I have really enjoyed everything I have read of this author's work. Having said that, I didn't think this book was as good as his usual work. I liked it the least of the four de Lint works I've read.

Incredible book, not only for fantasy readers

This book is incredibly well written. In my opinion his best work by far. Great story couldn't put it down.
