    Wonderful Childhood Classic

This was bought for my 2-year old granddaughter who, at the moment, has a love of all things train. We remembered this story from both our children's and our own childhoods, but we were delighted to see the original, complete version of the story. The illustrations are wonderful. She loves having this book read to her; and now our granddaughter, too, is repeating the memorable phrase "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can".

So easy and quick to read

My grandson loves this book and chimes right in while I am reading it to him. The graphics are really nice also.

Great help in building a positive attitude in young children

This is a classic story of the power of a positive attitude. It demonstrates to the chld that a 'can do' attitude really works.

    CLASSIC

This is a wonderful copy of a classic story. I don't know why people are talking about the abridged or board book version here. This is the complete original edition it's just smaller in size. The beautiful illustrations are bright and vibrant. This is not the new re-illustrated edition which I personally find unappealling. The images in the re-illustrated version are too stylized and unrealistic (some of which I think would actually frighten small children). The candy coloured images in the original are much more attractive to the eyes and better suited for small children. You can't go wrong with this one!

A wonderful, wonderful book that has charmed children from all walks of life. There is nothing more important than learning to read....if you can do that, you can do anything, go anywhere, accomplish anything.
Another joy for generations to come.

    Great Learning Tool

Children ages three and up will love this book. They learn that even though you may be small you can accomplish a big task and save the day!

An Old Standard with a New Look

I used to read this story to my children, and I was looking for a copy that was similar to the one I had as a young mother. I'm now a grandmother and this version of "The Little Engine That Could" is just what I wanted to find. The illustrations are very colorful, and the story is told simply without a lot of embellishments that bore young children when you read to them. It teaches a good lesson on perseverance. My grandchildren enjoy this story as much as my children did.

Why reillustrate a classic? Buy the original version instead!

The only motivation behind reillutsrating this classic children's story that has entertained and educated generations since its publication in 1930 can only be crass commercialism. The early 20th Century style of the original illustrations is part of the book's charm. The new illustrations don't do the original justice. Leave well enough alone. Don't buy this version -- especially when the original is still in publication and readily available. (By the way, the other reviews sound like paid advertisements from the publisher.)

WARNING: This is a MINI Book

I am sorry that I ordered this book. I was shocked and disappointed when it arrived, and I will return it. There is no way that I would give a child a mini book for a gift. In my humble opinion, the publisher should NEVER have offered this tiny book for sale. NOTE: I purchased the larger size before and that size was great.
