The Best Live Heavy Metal Album Ever?

There are bands known for their live prowess, such as Judas Priest or Slayer, and these bands have each made live albums at the height of their powers that have quite easily stood the test of time. However, Live After Death captures Iron Maiden at the very time when they were at the tip top of their game, and at the top of the heavy metal scene (at least until the breakout of Metallica a year or two later). The band sounds absolutely driven, with Bruce Dickinson especially whipping the crowd into a frenzy. This edition restores the five songs which originally comprised side four of the LP version, each recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. There's also a generous multimedia section, a bit outdated by these days, but still interesting to wade through. What hasn't dimmed is the sheer ferocity of Maiden onstage. From the first note of "Aces High" to the last of "Phantom of the Opera", the band simply doesn't let up for ten seconds. For fans of Maiden, and metal in general, this is a must have snapshot of the genre as it existed pre-thrash. For the uninitiated, there is no better place to start than here.

    Good Live Maiden! Excellent Album!

All the tracks are good live material. Some songs sound even better than before. Especially "The Phantom of the Opera", "Children of the Damned" and "Aces High".
