    Wonderful Surprise

I loved this book. I picked it up at my favorite B&N book store because I miss London and haven't been able to travel there for a while. The characters were a delight. As the story unfolds one become more and more involved. I would truly enjoy meeting these people again in a sequel.

    oh, for more of Stevenson........

Stumbling upon this book, I gave in to its purchase because I don't have the money to go to London. Then I was caught, re-reading the book three times in two weeks. I haven't found characters I've liked so much in a very long time. Best of all, there's stellar writing and craftsmanship. I read her novellas immediately after, which were amusing and horrifying, and gave me a sense of her development as an author. I've also just read the professional reviews of LB, which were critical of its jam-packed quality. However, with the exception of the nasty character's dying uncle, I was in thrall to her imagined Londoners, and only wish we'd meet again. A promise of more Stevenson keeps me from depression here in dark, snowy Alaska - if only 2002 could be here sooner.
