    Grace perfects Nature

Beverly Donofrio's sincere and observant memoir reminds me of St. Augustine's Confessions. Her previous book, Riding in Cars with Boys, was just as revealing, but in Looking for Mary, the author has matured into a true seeker. Any Catholic, any secularist, in fact, anyone, would benefit from this read. Particularly noteworthy is her simple, yet sublime assertion that we in the comfortable western world tend to focus on what we do not have; whereas we ought to focus on what we do have. Beverly's story would benefit many Catholics who might not understand how or why other thinkers think. Though some might think this is a woman's read only, as a man, I must admit, I could hardly put the book down once I began reading. This is a book many people will want to have on their shelf.

    what a beautiful story

I am grateful to have finished this book the day before Ash Wednesday. Ms. Donofrio is a gifted writer who makes her experiences with Mary shine through in vivid detail. I enjoyed the interview with the author at the back of the book, which helped picked up her story after the book ended. I have a profound respect for Mary, and this book has me eager to explore Mexico, Italy and Medjugorje. Thank you, Ms. Donofrio, for writing a book I will never forget.

Sequel Very Different From The Original

'Looking for Mary' turned out to be a bit of a surprise to me, even though I knew in advance that it was strongly religious in content. Because I had already read 'Riding in Cars with Boys,' and had seen the movie, I suppose I had a preconceived conception of what the 'real' Beverly is like. However, after reading this sequel, she is a mystery to me. I like her character and respect her for the choices she's made, and highly recommend this book to anyone in search of something they are lacking in their life.
