I chose to read this book because it was presented as a "Beauty & the Beast" type of book which is a favorite plot of mine. It was that and sooo much more. She is almost overpowering in her strength and character. But she is the only one strong enough to deal with our rather unromantic hero, the notorious Marquess of Dain. Wow, what a male leading figure. Rare is the book where you climb into the man's mind and see how he ticks. As rather scandalous things happen...you see why he has become the man he is. Your heart is captured as he rises from his unloving childhood to a ruthless adult, delighting in the downfall of others. Or...have we misread most of his intentions! Dain is one of the most complex male characters I've ever read. Not that he is perfect, no he dealt with his illegitimate son in the typical Victorian way (mainly ignore)...but his marriage to Jessica did change him. He could view things in a different way.
I liked that the main "plot" really was the romance although there is the introduction of Dain's child and a mild sinister plot involving an antique icon.
I was not enamored of any of the secondary characters, though I found the brother funny. I know the Grandmother played a role in this and I am wondering if she has her own story? Well worth reading.

I puchased this book based on all the reviews. The story line is a take on the classic beauty and the beast and could have made for a wondergul book but i thought the writing could have been better. The first half dragged because there was very little dialogue. I just find it hard to believe that someone like our heroine could fall for a guy like Lord Dain blindly...lots of descriptions of drug use, orgies, drinking...i just dont see how anyone remained sober or awake without hanging out with prostitutes long enough to change so quickly. This book is not worth more than $1.

Best Beauty and The Beast Historical I've Read

A favorite plot for me and wonderfully done! Beauty is exceedingly capable of handling the poor scowling beast--not that he doesn't deserve everything he gets, good and bad. Witty and entertaining, fun from beginning to end. Plenty of heat and sexual tension, few and not very graphic love scenes.

I read this on the Nook app (on my iPad), but bought two copies for non-ereader romance-loving friends.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH DAIN MYSELF

I loved this book. After I finished it I went back and read parts of it again. I especially enjoyed the scenes where they started out arguing and fighting and ended up in each others arms. Jess was a little spitfire and Dain was a HUNK that just couldn't resist her. I think Dain saw himself very differently than Jess did. He saw an ugly, repulsive man; she saw him as a beautiful and desireable man (I agree with her). This book was only .99 when I purchased it. It was worth much more than many other books I paid $7 and $8 for. I saw yesterday that it is now priced at $1.99. Even at that price it's a bargain!!!

    Fun Read!

This was a great read! The characters were very well developed and I found that unlike most typical romance novels, the protagonists were out of the ordinary which was rather refreshing.

    Deep Emotional Characters

I don't know what it is about this book, it has everything I like. Deep emotions, old wounds of the heart, great characters. Just loved this book, it quickly went to the top of my list and I've read them all.

    AHH

This is the most amazing book I have ever read. You can definately judge this book by the cover!! It's sexy, fun, and Jessica is a spunky heroine who certainly tempts and provokes Sebation into falling in love with her, despite himself! Fabulous story of love, wits, and fun!

    YOU'VE GOT TO GET THIS!!!

Originally, I bought this book because of the cover and I'm ever glad I did. The characters are gritty, raw, and sexy and the story is just as good. The characters aren't all mushy and gushy and Sebastian is so bad that a girl can't help but love him and Jessica gives him a run for his money in every way. I've read this book at least 8 or 9 times (for real) and it just keeps getting better. Add this to your collection.

    One of the Ten Best!

This book is truly outstanding. I've read many romance books throughout the years, and I place this book in the top ten. When reading this book, make sure you have the time to finish it, you won't be able to put it down! Her style of writing makes it easy to slip inside the minds of her characters and enjoy the antagonist bond between them. I loved this book and I can't wait for more new releases from Loretta Chase.
