    Worth Skimming

Certainly not the best novel written by Maguire. The story line is somewhat intriguing but in the end, it leaves something to be desired. A disappointing read, indeed, for a die-hard fan.

    Lost

I am fortunate enough to have read Lost before reading Wicked or Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. I have read niether yet, but since I've heard nothing but praise for them I won't be dissapointed to read such great books as Wicked and Confessions only to be unhappy with the next one. Lost was good but I know the next two will be better.

    Hmmmmmm

I understand the significance of Jack and Scrooge in the story, but it was hard to figure out until the last 75 pages or so. It was hard to connect with Winnie's loss, I think it would have made more sense to me if it were actually her biological kid that died. I did enjoy how so many other books and stories were incorporated into the novel.

    so so

for some reason, i couldn't quite get into this book as i got into mr. maguire's other books. it didn't really hold that essence that wicked and confessions held. however, it was well written, and every book can't be as good as the last.

Not as good as previous work

I enjoyed the book as a form of entertainment but I had trouble connecting with the main character. I couldn't really get inside her and relate to what she was feeling. I don't think that the "Jack the Ripper" subplot was connected to the main story very well and the beginning doesn't really tie in with the rest of the book.

    Good Ending

I loved Wicked hated the Stepsister and ultimately enjoyed Lost. I felt lost for the first 163 pages of this book. I asked myself why I kept doing this, buying in hardcover just because Maguire's first book was so good. The character's were difficult to enjoy and hard to relate to, that is until the end when all of a sudden I felt that I should reread it and try to catch everything. Give it a chance and it pays off.
