Wish I had had this 30 years ago

I'm a widower and I bought the book to see what I could improve on to help with any future companion. I found it very informative. I saw a lot of the mistakes that I had made and we both had made. If we had practiced this in our marriage it would have been so much better. I want all my kids to read it so they can avoid the pitfalls and have a good and happy relationship.

What a let down....

I was looking forward to a great, informative book... boy was I disappointed. This book may work for some, but I would never recommend it to anyone!! He comes off with an arrogant, almost condescending tone to his writing and the whole book had an underlining negativity to it. (Not something anyone in a struggling relationship needs!) I kept reading chapter after chapter hoping that it would get better, but when I realized it wasn't I closed the book and will probably never open it again! What a waste of $15!!! If you want a good book or two get Gary Chapman's books!!!

My husband and I were headed for a divorce. There was a lot of love lost between us during the first few years of our marriage. He was working and going to school, while I was working midnight shift at a stressful job, cutting hair parttime during the day, and pregnant on top of it...We forgot how to live together. Sounds crazy I know, but we never shared the bed for two straight years. We were given this book and two highlighters (different colors). We were asked to highlight the things we could relate to in the book, then come together and discuss them at the end of the chapter. It's amazing how differently you can look at the same situation. It has truely helped our marriage!!!
