Love and Louis XIV: The Women in the Life of the Sun King

The book is good - the proofreading is appalling!

I just finished this on my Nook and was astounded at the number of typos, punctuation and grammatical errors, and general misspellings in this book! The author likes to use the phrase "due to ..." and for some idiotic reason, this has been misspelled as "Duc to..." throughout. One can only suppose that the word "Duc" (duke) was initially misspelled as "Due," and some thoughtless proofreader performed a search & replace. Not once does the phrase "due to" appear properly. Similarly, names and places are misspelled.

As far as the content goes it gets really overwhelming. So many of these people had similar names, and it is not easy to flip back and forth to a genealogical chart when reading on a Nook, so I was often glossing over the text (especially in the later life of Louis) when the various Maries, Francoises, Madames and Phillipes were mentioned. My head feels like a French court soup!

Good background reading

For The Age of Comfort. If you're interested, and you care, you'll who everybody is in that book if you read this one first. For me it definintely enriched reading that book, and I also enjoyed this book in it's own right.
