Hot Read
Even the most strongly defended heart is no match for the conquest of love.
I enjoyed this novel. The heroine, Sarah, is delightfully well rounded. Quiet and practical with a soft heart, Sarah suffers with a troubling birthmark that has set her apart in society. Gideon North suffers with the lingering effects of his service in the Peninsular War and the disfiguring injuries he acquired there. His injuries give him an interesting depth that is easy to sympathize with even while his stubbornness invites frustration. Charles Borden is Gideon's estate manager and closest friend. Charles was my favorite character of the threesome. He's down to earth, emotionally sensitive and an all around good person.
Reading a Regency romance about a three-way relationship requires definite suspension of disbelief. Doubly so that there was a whole group of them who knew each other. But it's no different than believing there were scads of handsome, unmarried dukes running around working as spies for the Home Office. Ms. Kane does a great job of presenting the relationship and how it develops in a credible way that somehow works very well.
The conflict is mostly centered around Gideon's coming to grips with his experiences and injuries in the war, and the insecurity and hesitance between the two men to fully accept their erotic feelings. The conflict is believable and tightly interwoven with the developing sexual and romantic relationship. Charles and Sarah are both so very open hearted and unselfish in their coming together to reach out to Gideon.
The sex scenes are hot and filled with emotional depth from the beginning, even though the two men do not know the heroine well. Ms. Kane handles the wedding night perfectly. On that night, it's easy to believe Sarah is a woman of her times; shy, unknowing, yet her natural sensuality makes her curious and willing to experiment.
Later it's a little harder to mesh Sarah's blasé acceptance of the heroes' homosexual relationship with her being a Regency bride. I would have expected a young woman of that time to have been a little more surprised by men behaving in erotic ways with each other-especially if they were able to perform and enjoy sex with a woman. But this is a small point in an otherwise delightful book.

One of the Best in This Series
I stumbled across this series due to boredom with conventional historical romances, and these books have been refreshingly different. The Brothers in Arms series revolves around a group of men who fought together during the Napoleonic Wars and formed attachments so strong that they've chosen to live together once the war ends. All they need is a wife to complete their family. This book is about Gideon and Charles. Gideon who lost part of his leg during the war is in need of a wife who will accept him without pity, and that woman turns out to be Sarah who shares his insecurity due to the birthmark on her face. The two men were intimate once during the war, and Gideon has kept Charles at arm's length ever since despite the other man's obvious devotion. When Sarah completes their threesome, the two men are free to explore that side of their sexuality. Once again, the author writes sex scenes that are scorching in their eroticism, especially between the men. What sets her work apart from other erotica is that she also manages to create an emotional story arround the sex that's believable and affecting.

Good book
I found a lot of humor in this books and not to mention the hot scenes in it. Love this series

Highly Recommended
If you liked Ms. Kane's prior six books, you will enjoy this one. I was unsure of it at first as Gideon and Charles and been introduced in Retreat from Love and Gideon was not a particularly likable character. However, in Love's Fortress you see that due to his war injuries he is sure nobody will ever love him but he wants a family and will do what he can to ensure that. Charles is caught in the middle as he wants to make Gideon happy but at the same time is afraid that if Gideon find somebody who makes him happy Charles will be obsolute. Sara and Charles bring quite a bit of levity to the household and thus make Gideon start to trust he can love and be loved not just by Sara but also by Charles. The many ups and downs they go through bring the story to a quite satisfactory conclusion. Of course, you will also see Anne, Brett and Freddy pop up in this story too and they always being some fun to the story.

Recommended...Oh Yeah!
The whole 'Brothers in Arms' series is great! The story lines are fantastic, believeable and believe it or not fresh. Once I read the first 'Brothers in Arms' book I was hooked and purchased the rest on my next buying spree. If you like m/m and m/f/m you will love these!

Sweet
This was a really sweet sexy read. Not my favorite of the series but, a nice addition to the collection.
