A City view spanning two & a half centries.

I gave this book 3 starts not because it is not good, it's just not the read of the centry, then again it is. This book sits on my coffee table with a few other "browsers" and every guest that comes into my home picks it up. Images of America - Lynchburg 1757-2007 is that, images of this cities growth and history. Old photographs and artistic renderings capture the beauty and growth of this small city. As a fourth generation Lynchburger I remember many of these images; the pitchers in their original location pouring water into the reservoir on Church street, the Nuns wearing starched white wimples shopping downtown, the finished construction of E.C Glass, Agudath Shalom Synagogue and the original Fine Arts Center. I enjoyed learning the history of "the Listening Post" statue on the base of Monument terrace and the origins of the dolphin fountain at the Community Market (which used to be a farmer's market.) The one thing I missed was photos of the city stadium complex. My father once remarked that "Lynchburg fore-fathers had excellent foresight when they built that beautiful sports complex." I recommend this book heartily as an easy and enjoyable glimpse into the city history.
