This is definitely a helpful tool.
I had to read Macbeth for my English class, and the teacher mentioned No Fear Shakespeare to help us. I picked it up and didn't have much trouble with the Shakespearian English once I really got into it. The translations are good for the occassions when you really don't think you know what was just said. Also, the cover art is cool.

"No Fear" makes the story clear
I purchased this book as a tool to help my son get through "Macbeth" in his High School English class. It provided a clear view of the story using a language that is much easier to understand than "Shakespeare." I truly recommend it to students who have trouble comprehending stories of this kind. It sure helped my son!

The Shakespearean version sucks, but at the translated version is good.
This book is great if you do not understand Shakespeare's writing or need some clarification at some parts.

Good
I know exactly what the characters are saying. So I don't have to spend hours trying to figure out what they are trying to say. Love it. Good for class.

Macbeth
I read this as a requirement for 11th grade Honors Literature. Each page has both original text and everyday English so it made understanding Macbeth a breeze

It helped pretty well.
I really didn't like the whole old english because I couldn't understand it easily. The translation helped out a lot.

THIS BOOK GAVE ME AN A+!!!
This helped me a lot! It made me understand Macbeth. I enoyed Macbeth a lot more when it is in plain english. Who even talks like that now days? 'False face must hide what the false heart doth know.'

I like it
Ok you say a few lines are off, or let's say, not easily translated, but the 'contemporary side' of the page does have the meat of the story. I was impressed that it tries to retain the poetry of his words and analogies. You could read this in a few hours. It gives another interpretation of Shakespeare, which isn't a bad thing. Not everyone wants to name their first born 'Arden.'

Who translates these things?
Okay, I get the point that not everyone wants to go through an Arden edition of a Shakespeare play looking through footnotes the whole time. But just attempting to 'translate' Shakespeare word for word is an impossible task to begin with. And this particular book has some glaring errors, such as the lines 'she should have died hereafter, there would have been time for such a word' in Act V, scene 5. Some genius decided to translate it to something like 'she would have died eventually anyway, the news was coming sonner or later.' Has the translator actually READ any Shakespeare? Maybe I'm just being a literary snob, but it's a sad thought these are being passed off as true translations, which does not even come close to doing the great Bard justice.

Totally helpful
I bought the Macbeth version of the No Fear Shakespeare series and it totally helped. Especially with the longer sonnets! Def. recommended for college students who have to do too much reading as it is! You can read Shakespeare and if you get stuck, instead of sitting there analyzing it, you can just read the translation and continue on!!
