The Mage's Daughter (Nine Kingdoms Series #2)

Highly recommended.

Part of the first 3 books in the Nine Kingdoms series. Full of action, suspense, magic and much more. I've read all of Kurland's books and by far these three are my favorite. Finally a little romance and not all sex (not a bad thing but sometimes it takes over the story line). Loved the characters.

An absolutely amazing book and series.

This book is the second in a trilogy about Morgan and Miach. (I would suggest reading the first book first so you understand everything). It was a wonderful escape to an exquisite land that was fully devoloped and well written. The characters were extremely well rounded and dynamic. They all seem to have a slight mysteriousness about them and it makes you want to keep reading to see what happens and what that mysteriousness is. The plot, although spread across three books, is fully thought out and flows beautifully between books. One of my favorite things about Lynn Kurland's writing style is the way she alternates point of view every chapter or so. It goes from focusing on Miach to Morgan to whoever else needs to be discussed. It gives you real insight into the well drawn characters- their thoughts, actions, and how they deal with each other.
It has little innuendo or other similiar discussion.

I would suggest this book to anyone.This is definitely one of my favorite books/series of all time!

Each surprise is more satisfying and beautiful than the last!

The Mage's Daughter continues what is turning out to be, in my opinion, one of the greatest and most romantic fantasy trilogies of all time. For me, what makes it so wonderful is the way Morgan and Miach's relationship grows stronger and more beautiful, even when you thought it couldn't get much more perfect. They are truly on their way to becoming the perfect couple - two people who have every reason in the Nine Kingdoms to want the other for reasons less than romantic, yet they love each other for the person behind the skills and power and birthright... two people who love each other for what they are together... and I have the feeling that they don't yet have a clue how powerful that will be! Having read this novel, Star of the Morning: A Novel of the Nine Kingdoms (the first in the trilogy) is now even more perfect. This past year, as I've waited for this novel to come out, I've warned myself that I might end up disappointed... that this book might be another one of those books where the hero and heroine spend the entire time misunderstanding each other... frustrating me in the process.<BR/><BR/>It's not.<BR/><BR/>Not in the slightest.<BR/><BR/>Rather, the story continually presents surprises, and each is more satisfying than the last, telling a story that is totally different from any story I've ever read.<BR/><BR/>So!.... If you've read Star of the Morning: A Novel of the Nine Kingdoms already and are just looking for a review before you buy, read away! If you HAVEN'T read it, please take a moment and read my review for that book first (it's the first review there), and then buy both and get ready to be whisked away to the Nine Kingdoms for days. Angieville: THE MAGE'S DAUGHTER

I had forgotten how into the first book in the Nine Kingdoms series I was until I got five pages into this second volume and instantly remembered. Oh, right. This story totally rocks. The first volume, STAR OF THE MORNING, ends in utter chaos. Nothing is resolved, everyone's in peril, and I remember closing the book in disbelief at the audacity of ending a book in such a way when the sequel would not be out for another year. I wasn't too upset, of course, because the book had been so dang enjoyable. <BR/><BR/>Fortunately, THE MAGE'S DAUGHTER picks up right where its predecessor left off. The chapters alternate between Morgan of Melksham's story as she struggles to survive after destroying the Sword of Angesand and fleeing the Archmage of Neroche, and Miach of Neroche's story as he struggles to keep the realm intact and find Morgan at the same time. Morgan and Miach are both such sympathetic characters. You desperately want them to work out their differences and accept who they are because they deserve a measure of happiness after all they've been through. That and the fact that you want them to join their awesome forces to defeat the perfidious Lothar and figure out just what kind of ubercrap is creeping out of Bain's Well. I enjoyed this book so much I unconsciously dragged it out, savoring every chapter. It's terrifically entertaining and I love Lynn Kurland's writing style. Highly recommended to anyone who loves a good adventure. But make sure you grab STAR OF THE MORNING first!

LOVED THIS BOOK!

I'm very picky about my books. This series is perfect! I love how strong Morgan is and the woman she becomes with Miach. I love the epic fantasy,magic and sword play. This was sooooo hard to put down. Now my only problem is finding another book to read til the next one comes out.

Outstanding!

Lynn Kurland's talent knows no bounds! This book was amazingly written, where I felt I 'knew' Morgan and Miach! I have read hundreds of books, and I can rate this one up there with what I call my 'take me away' books. I loved the first book in the trilogy as soon as it came out, and was so upset to have to wait a year for the second one but, it was well worth the wait!! Way to go, Lynn! Thank you for 'taking me away' just when I needed it!

a terrific romantic fantasy

The archmage of the Kingdom of Neroche, Miach, knows he thought he did right when he hid his identity from Morgan (see STAR OF THE MORNING). Now he regrets his choice as he has learned the hard way that without her the Black Mage would have won. Loathing anything pertaining to magic, Morgan flees from him and the war to heal at the non magical Gobhann Castle.---------- Lothar continues his assault on the kingdom while Miach must decide how to prevent his imminent victory. His only hope rests with the woman he loves but betrayed. Somehow he must earn Morgan's trust as he knows he has her love, but that is not enough any longer as she feels he used her to get at her magic. Without her help Neroche will die, but the cost may be his heart.--------- This is a terrific romantic fantasy in which a desperate Miach tries to woo the woman he loves to help him stop the enemy. The story line is fast-paced yet the lead duo seems real as the beleaguered hero struggles to open his heart and soul to a distrusting Morgan who knows ten things she hates about him yet in spite of that loves him. Lynn Kurland provides a fabulous second tale that sets the stage for an incredible finish.------- Harriet Klausner

Great Series

If you love magic, a little romance, and a great adventure, then this is the book for you. I have read all 6 books in this series and I completely enjoyed each one.

LOVE this BOOK!

I loved this book and the trilogy. This 2nd book focuses on the romance between Morgan and Miach. I love how it develops and what is given to secure it from both of them. He is so honorable and likable. I love how he is able to win everyone over. I think they are so good for each other. I love each new piece of information that is unfolded. I could not put it down. Recommend to anyone.

A good sequel

While it was enjoyable, I have mixed feelings about this book. In the first book I found the ineffectiveness of the male lead a bit annoying. The heroine is always saving the day and there seemed little balance, but it was easy to read and has some fun dialogue and quick moving action. This book developed the hero at the expense of the heroine. While she is in recovery most of the book, she seems to become whiny and full of doubt. All of her strengths from the first book are gone--a complete about face. It made me uncomfortable. Also, I wish the main characters could get past this constant protecting of each other from difficult situations. She is one of the best warriors in the world and has magical power to boot. He is also an excellent fighter with strong magical training. They know this but act as though they believe the other is fragile. Since I do like the characters, I'm likely to read the third book, but am not in a tearing hurry.

Book two of three. Love Miach and Morgan. This book is just as fun as the first with a few new twists. Must read!

meh... it was okay

I agree with the review before this one. It was a good story, got and read the third one. but it was disappointing to have a strong character turn into a sappy weepy mess. I kept waiting for her to get her backbone back and become the strong character she started out to be, but it didn't happen in this book. The story was good, not an original tale, but a fun read nonetheless. I also had a hard time trying to put faces to a lot of the characters in this series. I know what Morgan looks like because of the cover, but I haven't been able to put a face to Miach, which is frustrating when trying to escape in a book. Another thing that had me confused was when leaving Gobhann, Miach couldn't use his magic..so how did he to tend to the realm and keep up the defenses he had put into place??? I will finish the series in hopes it will get better as far as details go, but right now it just seems like a quick and easy read-nothing to great.

The second is not as strong as the first

I LOVED the first book in this series, and could hardly wait to read the second. i was some what disappointed. i, personally, just couldnt get over strong Morgan, becoming weepy Morgan. ALL THE TIME.
it was still a good story, and i went out and got the third book, but i just couldnt help feeling that the character completely changed. maybe the third book will balance Morgan out?

I love this series! I could not put it down until the end!

I have not read any books in years and I found Star of the Morning and could not put it down! The book left me hanging wanting more... I read the Mages Daughter and still wanted more, I can not get enough...I can not wait to see the third book of the series. Lynn Kurland is a very talented author, I am very interested to read more of her books. I am very picky when it comes to what I read, the author has to keep me interested, or I lose interest. Lynn Kurland is one of those rare authours that is a one of a kind!!!!
