    Blocks, Quilts and Quillows

If you are like me, you must have a dozen or so books that give you ideas on different patterns. MAGIC PILLOWS, HIDDEN QUILTS not only gives you the instructions for making the Pillow/Quilt but it gives you six basic blocks and then goes one step further to show you variations on the basic nine patch, rectangles and four-patch, half-squares triangles and quarter square triangles. WOW!

The basics of quilting and what tools you will need plus the various blocks (see above paragraph), takes up the first 45 pages of the book so there is plenty of detail. There are lots of graphics and tips (shown in colored boxes) and the written instructions are easy to follow.

The next section shows the quilts, gives cutting instructions and how to make the blocks, all in color with swatches shown in the fabric needed area. There are 20 quilts shown in all.

Now you get to the quilt top construction section, borders, mitered borders and quilt layering. Up to this point, you are simply making quilts. Now comes the section on how to make your quilt a Quillow Pillow. It can be a slip in, wrapped or pocket type; each is shown.

To finish up the book, Ms. Hellaby talks about how to fold a Quillow, using binding or not using binding to finish the edge of the Quilt/Quillow. The final page really adds to the book. It gives directions on how to create a single or double bed sized quilt.

If your book shelf needs to be weeded out and you MUST pick only a few books to keep, make this one of them. Blocks, lap, single or double bed sized quilts, binding or no binding and making a Quillow. This book has it all.
