Down Syndrome guy story ruined the book for me

Magical Thinking was ruined for me when I came to the story Burroughs tells to his boyfriend about a friend who goes to a bar and picks up a man for a night of drunken sex. In the morning the friend realizes his one-night stand has Down Syndrome. His friend recoils upon discovering this and leaves the 'Down Syndrome guy' who has just said 'I love you.' This is a tragic story not a joke. The idea of a mentally handicapped person being picked up at a bar and then rejected cruelly the next morning by someone who was too drunk to realize that his 'date' had Down Syndrome is beyond the pale. I'm not a prude and almost never offended but this crossed the line for me. I can't stop thinking about the story and feeling bad. Too bad as I really enjoyed his other work.

    Disappointed

As a true Burroughs fan, I was very disappointed. Magical Thinking is a premature 'Best of Augusten'. After reading most of his Details columns, Running with Scissors, Dry and hearing him on NPR, the majority of these stories are nothing new. Having anticipated this book since I put down Dry I am quite disappointed.
