I love it!
I enjoyed this 2nd book in the trilogy as well as the first. I love the way it begins and the time period it takes place in. It is amazing to me that such religious persecution can take place. It was a fascinating period in time. I am glad I live now instead.

It was interesting to see what became of Oliver although disturbing at times. I found it a bit aggravating when Oliver and Lark choose to interpret each others actions rather than talk about their feelings for each other. They then make choices that end up hurting one another instead of building a relationship. I guess that happens in real life as well.
I enjoyed Oliver's character development maturing into a more responsible individual worthy of Lark.
There are some marital sex scenes to be aware of. -
Favorite in the series!
I loved this book! It starts out with a hanging, and ends with the same man put up for death again. Now how can that be, you say? Lark, a strickingly brave woman, belongs to a group that rescues prisoners just as their executions are going down. She saved Oliver once, hoping he would help them in their further adventures. But the handsome man is too set in his chasing women ways, that he had no time. Until the lovely Lark comes to hunt him down. And Oliver finds that he would follow THIS woman anywhere. He becomes part of her world, then finds he was part of a bigger plan all along. A plan that shocks both Lark and him. This story is full of playful banter, steamy sex, breath holding schemes, love and near heartbreak. Can Lark save Oliver again? It's a tale worth reading!!! The whole series is great, and if you love books about historical London and Europe...GET THESE BOOKS!

Forget this Book!
After reading other historical romances..I was happily prepared to discover another author....what a disappointment! The writting was childish to say the least, the plot....what plot? Save your money!

The two protagonists appeared in book 1, At the King's Command: Oliver de Lacey the seriously ill asthmatic 9-year-old hidden from King Henry and Lark Merrifield a one-sentence glimpse as a babe in the arms of her husband (!)
Now 20 years later, Lark, a Samaritan, along with an accomplice rescue one "Oliver Lackey" from a hanging and bring him to Blackrose Priory at the wishes of her dying husband. Spencer Merrifield has plans to protect his lands and Lark from his estranged son Wynter, and needs Oliver's help to see that they are carried out. All the historical and fictional players are here: Queen Mary, the young Bess, Oliver Cromwell, the gypsies, Kit Youngblood, glimpses of Stephen de Lacey and Juliana and Oliver's remarkable step-siblings, as well as the religious struggles caused by Henry VIII. Yet, as vibrant as Oliver is, as brave Lark is, as evil as Wynter is, and as chockfull of tense situations the book contains, the tale is surprisingly flat.

This book is even better than the first
You'll fall in love with this novel, its impacting and very breath catching. I felt i surge of happiness in many of the parts. It made me cry laugh and its a worth it novel. This book teaches you the real meaning of love. The real meaning of joy when found with the person you love. Mary Tudor was beautiful figure who greatly helped the two characters. Oliver and Lark make a beautiful unforgettable couple in this novel. Its a must read :D, I reccomend it above all !
