A must to read and must-have book for everyone's health library
I have sent copies of this book to my mother, sister, and 2 grown sons. Dr. Amen starts by telling us that the brain is involved in everything we do. It seems like such a simple statement about something we all know, but somehow we seem to ignore it or forget about it. He goes on to describe in layman's terms the different areas of the brain, what they are responsible for, and what symptoms indicate a lack of proper performance in that part of the brain. There is a quiz for the reader that potentially identifies trouble areas. The book suggests ways to address these areas. This book has really opened my eyes to what I used to think were real character flaws in people, like chronic lateness, to understanding that it's more than likely a brain malfunction. It's made me more tolerant and sympathetic. If I had read it in time, maybe I could have saved my first marriage.
In almost all cases of brain issues, he recommends physical exercise. He talks about nutrition and its role in the health of the brain. He describes nutritional supplements, like vitamins and minerals, and what roles they play in brain health. He even has a table of supplements and their usefulness in treating which brain disorders, including treating people at risk for illnesses such as dementia, alzheimers, and parkinsons. The book covers the pharmaceuticals available, their effectiveness and appropriateness in treating which brain disorders.
This book will help motivate you to maintain a proper weight and toned body (and brain), not just with suggestions as to what to eat and how much, but how it all affects you and the WHYs you should eat this and not that.
Most important book that thoroughly addresses mind and body health that I've ever read.2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

Interesting Book
This book has some very interesting points dealing with many ailments many Americans suffer from such as depression, anxiety, adhd and fatigue. His advice to purge the diet of all things unnatural hits home. With all the highly processed foods, sweeteners and lack of a balanced diet, Dr. Amen believes it is no wonder the brain is off-kilter dealing with these barrages in the body. He offers some very eye-opening advice to get the brain back in balance so the rest of the body functions properly and optimally. Dr. Amen motivates the reader to take action in their own life to strive for not only brain health but overall wellness.
