Pavarotti - The Supreme Romantic
This CD released by DECCA gives listeners a terrific opportunity to enjoy a less formal Luciano - here Pavarotti returns to his heart's delight: the music of a long-ago Italian passegiata, when the love songs were unabashedly sentimental and full of pure emotion. Pavarotti interprets these favorite and familiar tunes, like Mamma (written in the early part of the 19th century) and 'Non Ti Scordar Ti Me' (circa 1935)with a sense of nostalgia and freshness concurrently. The 'King of the High C's' is more relaxed, his effortless delivery and perfect pitch is still part of his intrinsic musicality and it's an easy pleasure to ride with Pava on this Italian carousel of song. His voice is as warm and enveloping as ever, perhaps more so, as these were the songs he might have sung as a lad in Modena, years away from his meteoric ascent to the top. There are some wonderful songs which were new to me, such as 'Chitarra Romana' which has become one of my favorites. Each song is a gem, set into a golden crown, fit for King Luciano - can you tell I really love the CD and the artist? Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
