Landscape of marriage coaching
Several years ago Greg and Julie Alexander were seriously considering divorce when, on advise of their parish priest, they began to look more deeply at Church teachings to discover God's plan for their marriage. Inspired by readings on marriage from the bible and Catechism of the Catholic Church, they worked their way back to the love they had known early in their relationship. In 1999, they started Alexander House, a faith-based non-profit organization dedicated to the education and enrichment of marriage and family life. Resources currently available through Alexander House include Covenant of Love, a parish based marriage ministry that features Couples of Faith marriage groups; workshops on such topics as healing emotional wounds, marriage as a sacrament, and obstacles to communication; and a number of other study aids and programs. Their latest resource, Marriage 911, is subtitled "How God Saved Our Marriage (and can save yours, too!)" It is organized around a series of questions the Alexanders ask couples in private coaching sessions. The first question is about the individual marriage (Do you value it? Are you willing to work on it? Will you follow the advice in the book?). The second question relates to faith in Jesus Christ (Does He have the power to redeem and restore your marriage?). The third question addresses openness to God (Will you permit God to enter your life and redeem it?) The book is formatted in 13 chapters, the even ones written by Julie, the odd by Greg, beginning with the couple's meeting in college and ending with the founding of the apostolate. Titles include The Missing Ingredient, Dying to Self, and Undoing the Damage. Each chapter closes with "Before you go on" questions to help readers examine their own lives and relationships. To learn more about the Alexanders and their apostolate, search for Alexander House on the web.

Highly Recommended for Hope and Help for Marriages!
Enjoyed the honesty and outcome of the authors' testimonies. The questions at the end of each chapter helped me see better into my own marriage (23 years) and to offer hope for others. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
