When I entertain, I always refer to this book for inspiration!

I cook from scratch and cook daily and thought this book was an excellent reference when planning a get together for family or friends. Many of the recipes are colorful, healthy, offer texture and are tasty. These recipes can easily be co-ordinated with any menu and many can be used as an appetizer course. This book took much time to produce with pictures and presentation ideas for every recipe. I save all of my food magazines and am lucky to get 3 -4 usable recipes. Many times I buy a book and actually make 1 or 2 things from it. I have regularly made about 12 recipes from this book.

    Successful Entertaining

I bought this book for an engagement I was having and the food was a huge hit! Not to mention the easy to follow pre-set menus in the back for various occasions.

    Too Basic

This book has received way too much hype. I thought it was very basic and had very few good recipes that were new or creative.

Love her or hate her, Martha knows parties!

Maybe she is just a little too perfect for the rest of us, but this book is the best guide for what to serve as a tasty treat at the swankiest or smallest shindig. Tons of helpful photos in the front (to get you inspired) and then oodles of recipes on all the other pages. And some are even do-able!! I have many cookbooks but this is the one that I go to for hors d'oeuvres.
