One of the finest existential novels ever written. It's a war book, and had it been published today it would have been relegated to the Christian fiction ghetto. But this is one of the most powerful, thought provoking books about faith, the human experience and the struggle to be free. If you want to know how religious faith operates under persecution or whether modernist liberal Christianity can resist the compelling force of communist ideology, read this book. Should be read alongside dystopian classics like Fahrenheit 451 or 1984.
