Mastered by great reads

Best thing about the book was the relationship between Royce and Minerva and the way he tried to be different from his father. I liked his outlook on what a duke SHOULD do and how he implemented his ideas. Whether that was consistent with the time period, I don't know, ...
Best thing about the book was the relationship between Royce and Minerva and the way he tried to be different from his father. I liked his outlook on what a duke SHOULD do and how he implemented his ideas. Whether that was consistent with the time period, I don't know, but it was great reading. I LOVE Stephanie Laurens and this book is just a great reminder of why that love is so justified. She is hands down my favorite author for regency England romances, I don't care how historically inaccurate they might be. Her women are just strong representations of femininity, strong without obviously kicking butt or taking names - subtlety is the word for a Laurens heroine. And in this book Laurens another compelling hero in Royce - the head of the Bastion Club come home at last to claim his Ducal title. It's one of those books that while it might look like it only has a simple plot from the outside, is actually quite complex and the twists and turns that result in the happy ending are engaging and enjoyable. I highly recommend it, as a stand alone or as the last in the series.

So disappointed!!!!

I waited a long time for this story..I feel cheated! I feel it was lacking in excitement and the ending was so bland! I lost count of how many times Minerva was referred to as Royce's chatelaine. They've known each other since she was six years old for Pete's sake. ...

They've known each other since she was six years old for Pete's sake. And his terrible temper was mentioned so many times it was ridiculous. And the villain! Don't get me started.
I have enjoyed the Bastion Club series very much but this story could have been so much better!!

Bastion Club finale a big let-down

The Bastion Club series has been exciting, action-filled, suspenseful, and wickedly fun, until now. The long-awaited story of Dalziel was a huge disappointment. With a tedious plot and sparse characterization, the only thing to recommend it are the torrid love scenes which, unfortunately, border on the pornographic and comprise the bulk of the book. The last traitor's motivation is trite to the point of being unbelievable, he does little of interest until the very end, and even then his plan is predictable enough to be downright boring. Surely someone this stupid couldn't have managed to avoid Dalziel and the other spies for so long! This book is unworthy of Laurens and appears to be a sloppy, disorganized mess written just to finish off the series.

    terrible

i usaully love stephanie laurens, and looked forward to this book. royce turned into a whiny, bad tempered pushover who loved to cry "it wasn't supposed to be like this". what happened to the mysterious, dangerous spymaster? there was no sign of him in this book, along with very little plot. i wish i had never bought this book. big disappointment.
