    what engaging fun!

I used to think I couldn't write short stories or novellas. Too few words to do what I wanted. Recently, I was involved with a project where I did three and really loved the format. Shorts stories and novellas are very hard to write. You have to hit all the same targets - develop interesting and "real" characters, and even in a fantasy realm, you have to have the conflict, crisis, edge-of-the-seat plot that pulls the reader to keep turning pages. It's much harder to do, because you do not have the words to waste. That Rowena Cherry packed so much action into less than 15,000 words is mind-boggling. It's hard enough when you writer Contemporary Romance or Historical Romance - the readers are "used" to these worlds so you don't have to fill in all the spaces. But in Sci-Fi Romance, you are really biting off a major task. Cherry does it and style, originality and deftness that will leave the reader amazed.

This is a pre-story to her novel. I enjoyed this since the hero is a twin. I have twins in my family, so they are endlessly interesting to me, especially the good twin/bad twin flip of the coin premise. Again, Cherry is not content with a simple story between hero and heroine...we have the dastardly evil twin mucking about in his brother's life. Helispeta has always loved the good Prince Devoron-Vitan. The bad twin she would as soon feed to Woo's hogs at Deadwood. While our hunky Prince is off saving the universe from his brother's dirty dealings, he leaves the door open for brother to become emperor of their planet, and as if that isn't enough for his beedy little mind, he kidnaps Helispeta. The hero must ride to the rescue, but will it be in time?

It's a racy, razor edge of a tale, which will leave you amazed at how she does so much with so few pages.
