excellent guidebook for all variety of health issues
Had the original "Mayo Family Health Book", this new version is well written and formatted in very useful order. Our son and daughter-in-law enjoyed looking at the book, found it to be so useful to their family of three boys, we gave the book to them. Will get one for us soon.

This book is very good at explaining medical terms/conditions in more easily understood terms than some of the self help medical websites.

I bought it to replace an older edition from another well known medical institution and was pleasantly surprised to see it was easier to understand and find what I was looking for. -
The Best Home Medical Reference
Since we're educated and a doctor can only review us for an hour, I've always figured, I should do my homework on personal health troubles. Before arriving at Barnes and Noble, I turned down the chance to see about a program to be a rural medical doctor as I figured, I couldn't afford it and the staggering time involved would not be worth the quality time I'd loose with my little girl, nevertheless, I like to keep up on the latest in preventative health care and have witnessed several impossible changes for the better in myself due to being well informed. Here and abroad, it also helps me check the tracks of what the doctor recommends. This way, I know if they're ignoring the recommendation not to overprescribe antibiotics, or how much their leaving out on my symptoms. It gives me a starting place to figure out what's what, and look up more info.

I lived in Mexico for 10 years and one thing I appreciated was that my books and magazines could cross customs with no trouble. When I read about 2 feet's worth a books mostly about baby and child care, waiting for my baby to arrive on the scene, I started with reading this one as an overview of what's going on all over people's bodies. One thing I especially appreciated was a list of all the recommended tests and innoculations in all 50 states, so I figured, I'd just ask the doctor to send me off to get all of them for my newborn to make sure that she was in tip top health. Nevertheless, being informed I found though some cost a good bit, if we don't get them and the baby is one of the unfortunate ones later they can have terrible things that are totally avoidable.

So I stand by me and my Mayo as a really great reference book for anyone's library.
