I have to write this while my thoughts are still fresh on the subject. Because I will completely forget this entire book within the next few days. It wasn't particularly interesting, funny, or original. There is supposed to be a paranormal element to it but I never bought it or was invested in that part of the storyline. The love interest had such little interraction with the main character I found it hard to believe that he fell in love with her or that they had any sort of chemistry. I'm honestly surprised something like this got published.Show Less

    Ehh...

The book started out nicely, you like Emily, the heroine and the story line. But I could never like Spike, the new Mr. Darcy. The story wasn't very creative. Emily has dreams and hallucination throughout the book where she thinks she's actually talking to a real Mr. Darcy. The fights between Emily and Spike were taken directly from Pride and Prejudice with no change. For those Pride and Prejudice lovers, read Shannon Hale's Austenland.

    An Enchanting Trip

Although the language was not very creative, Me and Mr. Darcy is an easy read with a lovable plot. One can envision the characters perfectly with Ms. Potter's good descriptions, and one can feel transported to a land where time is void. I loved the hardy, English atmosphere of the novel, and the heart-warming characters like Rose, Rupinda, Hilary, Maeve, and, of course, Ms. Steane! If one is looking for a good book on a rainy day, I highly recommend Me and Mr. Darcy. It is a delightful escape.

So terrible I had to put it down.

Honestly I had to stop reading this book after about 50 pages because the writing was horrific, and caused me to cringe in literary agony every other paragraph. A good idea for a story gone horribly wrong by writing that seems to be created by an 11 year old. Not only was it bad, but the wrong also assumes the reader is an idiot, explaining things in boring and petulant detail. I have never written a review for a good or bad book before, but I wanted to write one for this to caution people AGAINST spending money on this painful dribble...I really wish I could return it.

Beyond the initial spark to create a modern day Mr. Darcy, I can't believe this book was published. I seriously wondered if a 5th grader wrote it. Had I not been stuck on a plane, I'd have recycled it after the first 40 pages (instead of donating, because I wouldn't want someone else to suffer through it). The protagonist is supposed to be a well-read 28 year old book store manager and self-proclaimed geek who adores the classics...and yet she has no original thoughts, no in- depth observations, and the most mundane speech. The lead curses like a sailor and has the maturity and vocabulary of a 12 year old. The author employs the word 'plonked' to its greatest extent. The 'banter', if you could call it that, was tedious and did NOT make me want more. In a nutshell, the characters were not believable or well developed, and the book was not well written, in my opinion. If you loved Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, or books by modern day romance writers such as Julia Quinn and Karen Moning, don't bother with this book!

    Enjoyed it

I really enjoyed this book. I love pride & prejudice and found it very interesting to see how mr darcy and a present day woman would interact

    Simple

Being a person who did not read Pride and Prejudice before this book, I found it extremely charming and thought it had a unique twist. It is great for light reading, but if you plan on finding any answers or wisdom hiding between the lines then I wouldn't reccomend this book. For an avid reader it could seem immature or predictable, but the humor and romance of the story makes it an enjoyable book.

    Are you kidding me???

This was by no means a good book - or any relevance to Mr Darcy. The main character, who 'meets' Mr Darcy comes across sounding like an idiot rather than an intelligent 29 year old woman who loves books and words. Why is it that every other word spoken by her to Mr Darcy was either slang or curse word?
The character portrayal was poor as was the writing. An Unfortunate waste of money.

Me & Mr. Darcy....not really enjoyable

I did not like this particular novel & being a "Jane Austen" fan- this did not suit well with me. This is not a keeper in my library. The character of "Mr. Darcy" was not used to a better advantage in this book- all in all -the characters were not very agreeable/likeable.....

    Good Read

Its a well written book with developed characters, it flows easily couldn't put it down BUT if you are in love with Fitzwilliams Darcy this is not the book for you... In a way it makes you dislike Darcy a lot...

    Good for a Fun Book

I borrowed this from a fellow Pride and Prejudice fan and thought it was fun to read, and it showed Mr. Darcy in a new light. The story is somewhat predictable, but it was good none the less

    Fun reading

Great for Pride and Prejudice lovers. The story with a twist. Don't we wish we were all Emily Albright...

    Cute.

This book is witty, charming and creative. I enjoyed reading it except that it slightly ruined my image of Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. I wouldnt buy this book but its good for a one time read.

    Mr. Darcy

The novel plot of a young woman harboring a great admiration for literature and meeting the tall, smirking Mr. Darcy is temptingly appealing. I purchased this book the same day that I found Pride and Prejudice hidden among the gorging stacks of books in the bookshop. Admittdedly, I liked the basic plot of the story. The language is coarse and, as it is written by an English authoress, tries to sound like the sterotypically loud, obnoxious American, which I found to be slightly disturbing and uncomplimentary. Overall, though, I think the book to be nicely done and possibly even a bit charming.

    a lovely tale

as an avid jane austen fan. Potter takes the enchanting story of Pride and Prejudice and adapts it to a novel of modern love. Showing anybody can meet their Mr.Darcy.

    The sad truth

I really enjoyed the concept of this novel. As someone whose dream guy is Mr. Darcy, I found the story very intriguing and a sad realization of the truth (that Mr. Darcy is not perfect for the modern woman).
