Like the first book, the story starts quickly... and picks up speed from there. Also like the first book, the conflict plays out against a backdrop of future politics so bizarre that they could have been ripped from today's headlines.

In short, if you liked Mech you'll love Mech 2.

Larson's writing style is smooth and unencumbered. However Mech 2, much like the original Mech novel, lacks any real thought into the plot and guides you blindly towards the story's conclusion. The "Mech" in both novels are not so much the main character or part of the plot as they are side notes to a very watered down tale.

I couldn't bring myself to give it below three-stars because despite the aforementioned flaws I still enjoyed reading the book. It also helps that it is an afternoon read and not truly an epic affair.

A MUST READ for Sci Fi Fans!

This installment of Mech is arguably better than part one. This says alot because I loved part one. Mr. Larson mixes fiction and science in an excellent blend, keeping the technology plausible and the characters believable. He has created worlds with depth of detail in geography, inhabitants and social customs; creatures that make you hold your breath. The story will keep you turning the pages as fast as you can.

    Unadulterated Enjoyment!

I strongly suggest you read the previous book in the series (Mech 1: The Parent) prior to reading this installment.

This story was a very fast and fun read that completely entertained and engrossed me. The plot held my attention so completely, I finished this book in one day.

The story delivered exactly what I was looking for, a creepy and creative uncomplicated plot. I just could not put this book down.

I highly recommend this book fellow SF readers and also recommend to fellow dark urban fantasy readers who are looking for a good space opera but do not want to end up with a space romance. I will be reading the next book in the series Mech 3: The Empress.

    Even better than the first!

The mechs move on and, hopefully, they will move on again in a sequel!
