Rebecca is a fascinating character, dealing with jealousy of her older sisters, becoming a real American, while not compromising the traditions and beliefs of her family. She makes decisions after much soul-searching and does the right thing, even though it is not whatr is expected. Her chutspah is shown through each book as she grows in character from a girl who is thinking about others. The books are rich in the life of Jewish families who have come to America to find a better life. Jaqueline Dembar Greene has brought life on the Lower East Side of New York in 1914-15. All the girls who have read this book love this character and period. Well done!

It taught people about Israel. She was from Israel so they had the Sabbath and Passover.
