Not great, but I'm interested enough to read the next in the series.

"...I thought 'The Memory of Earth' started off a little on the slow side, and the pace never really picked up too very much, but what did build throughout the book was intrigue. There are murder plots, mysterious rituals, prophecies, and the great mystery of the Oversoul. The religious theme runs strong through the entire story - people who submit to the Oversoul are rewarded, and those who go against it are inevitably punished - but I didn't think it was necessarily preachy. I've read that the series is based in part on The Book of Mormon (which is likely, since Card is a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints), but I never felt like that was all I was getting out of the story (though since I'm not familiar with the Book of Mormon, it's also possible I just didn't have the frame of reference to make the parallels)..." more from this reviewer

    Highly Recommend

This is a great series. It grabs your attention at the beginning. Card has a great imagination. I first fell in love with his writing with the Ender Series, then the Ender's Shadow Series. This is the third series by card I have read. I am slowly working my way through them all. Next is the Journeyman Series. I can't wait to read that, if it is half as good as the rest then I am in for a great read!!!

    A taste of ethereal reality

The story is awesome totally riveting. Orson Scott Card makes it so easy to put yourself in place of the characters in the book, and there is no confusing dialogue, or super complicated area discriptions. Even though it may sound easy to read, it's not! But you'll love it every step of the way. I love it so much I haven't even finished reading the book yet at this point (1-24-04) and I am still writing this review!
