Readable enjoyable English Catholic WWII novel.
Apthorpe is a white African, just to have it straight, who eventually dies. This novel has a lot of comic satire aimed at the stupidity of organization of the war. It was an eye-opener for me to read about a member of the English Catholic aristocracy. I thought they had all been killed by the Protestant inquisition.
