A Great Escapist Read

Finn has finally managed to cross over into Ari¿s dimension and the two are now united in body and spirit, but there are some obstacles in their way: Finn (for all intents and purposes) does not ¿exist¿ in our dimension ( he has no identity papers, no job or home), he is a man on the run from the authorities in his own dimension (it is not legal to be in the Beta dimension) and on top of it all, his presence in the Beta dimension takes its toll on him physically and emotionally.

In Merge, the sequel to Converge, author Chris Owen, takes us on another thrilling adventure¿

Owen does not allow the pace he manages to set in Converge to slack in any way and readers are treated to some stunning new developments. At the end of Converge, the reader was left with a cliffhanger and in Merge Owen picks up the story from where he left the reader: dangling and begging for more¿

Not only does he paint a very vivid picture of the challenges that face Finn and Ari, but a stunning secret is revealed about Blake (Finn¿s co-worker and ally). Readers are also left with more intriguing questions, such as the mysterious disappearance and re-appearance of a large number of people from Ari¿s dimension (the Beta dimension).

One does not need to read Converge in order to enjoy Merge, as the author makes a lot of effort to bring readers who might not have read Converge on board, but I think reading Converge before moving onto Merge makes for a much more enjoyable reading experience.

Merge is truly a triumph in the fantasy novel genre and I can really recommend it for a very pleasurable reading experience!
