Makes you rethink your relationship with animals.

This was a fantastic read. As a biologist and zookeeper my ideas on the relationship between man and animal were pretty well established. . . this book blew them all out of the water. It has made me rethink my relationship with the animals at work as well as my own an...

    Not bad...

It took me a long time to actually finish this book. I lost interest a few times and would stop and read another book inbetween. This was mostly due to the scientific studies on dog behavior that the author included throughout the book. I found those parts a bit boring at times. I am glad I didn't give up on the book though because the story of Merle and Ted really was a touching and interesting one. If you love your pet, this book is for you...

    In the Middle

I liked the parts where the author describes Merle's actions and thoughts. The scientific areas were boring to me.

    Endearing read. But...

An endearing read. Heartwrenching at the end. I think if you have ever been close to a dog you won't learn anything but will completely understand the bond.
A little wordy at times, but my major fault is all the hunting and the try to justify it. I am a vegan and would not have bought the book in the first place if I had known. The sample read snagged me to buy it and never revealed the extent hunting was involved.
I did still read it and skirted past the hunting parts which were plentiful.

Good if you want to know the history of man and dog.

This is a good read. I did not expect a history lesson along with the story. It is a tear jercker. It takes time for it to plck up.

    I love dogs

I bought this book because I love dogs and figured it would be great. I'm in the process of reading it now and although I think its what I consider a slow read, I am finding it very informational and heart warming. Not yet sure if there will be a twist in this true life story but so far I've enjoyed it.
