    Going Green with Michael Recycle

While searching for a book about conservation, I came across this clever, environmentally-friendly tale.

Written in Dr. Seuss-style catchy rhymes by Ellie Bethel, this over-sized treasure (printed on recycled paper) tells the story of superhero Michael Recycle, a green-caped crusader whose mission is to get communities to recycle and conserve.

Wearing an overturned colander on his head, he rallies a town whose residents had gotten "rather lazy" to clean up their community.

I shared it with our Green Teams at school and they all gave it a ten-plus. Their favorite part was the section in the back with Michael's Go Green Tips, simple ideas to create awareness and get kids excited about conserving resources.

Use the book to create an action plan for your children to get involved in the recycling movement. Examples could be:

. In partnership with WalMart, Elmer's Glue Crew asks kids to collect, clean, and recycle empty glue bottles and sticks.

. The Drink Pouch Brigade recycles empty Capri Sun and Honest Kids juice pouches.

. Office Depot and Staples recycle printer ink cartridges.

. The Ronald McDonald House recycles the tabs from soft-drink cans.

    Kids: Recyle with Michael

I am always looking for a book to share with my class around Earth Day and trying to get my classroom excited about taking care of the earth. This book gave them a great character who showed the people of their town how to make a difference and when they figured it out, Michael moved on to a new place. It also added ideas of how to recycle at a child's level.
