This book is not appropriate for a 3rd grader. My son choose it

This book is not appropriate for a 3rd grader. My son choose it because he loves baseball and thought it was about Mickey Mantle. It isn't really about Mantle at all and there were too many sexual undertones for me to let him even finish the book. Very disappointing.

    Mickey and me

Stosh tries to travel back in time to meet Mickey Mantle, but because of his cousin Samantha, he ended up meeting Mickey MCGUIRE! Stosh gets the nickname "Stoshie" from the girls baseball team and becomes a mascto. Read it and BUY it to figure out more.

A Very Different Baseball Card Adventure

Dan Gutman offers a new appeoach to his Baseball Card Adventure series, but I'm not sure it's the best approach. First of all, the infamous Mickey Mantle is hardly mentioned at all. You'd probably expect the title to fit in with the storyline, but, in this case, the title should've been changed because the story had almost nothing to do with Mickey Mantle. On the positive side, the baseball action is in-depth and detailed so you can understand it. The action is fast-paced and never lulls. Descriptive words help you picture the action in your head easily and enjoy the controversy. Any true baseball fan will enjoy the fact that you can't possibly know what will happen next during a baseball game. The characters are beleivable. Gutman gives them all the natural human emotions, reactions, and thoughts. At one point, he mentions how fixated the main character, Joe Stoshack, is on girls' attractiveness while he's beginning the puberty stage. So, Mickey and Me is a unique addition to the series. It isn't the greatest book in my opinion. But there are a few laugh-out-loud and nail-biting moments. I can't tell you to buy it or not, so you choose for yourself.
